Steve was right (I'm starting a newsletter)
Steve convinced me to start this newsletter format. Thinking about balancing production, marketing, and exploration.
Hey y’all,
Here's an actual conversation I had with my partner Steve earlier this week.

As always, Steve was right (as usual), so here we are. I’ve rounded up some interesting tweets, added my thoughts on them, and sprinkled in some general thoughts along with what we’ve been up to this week.

### Thoughts from the week
On this week's episode of [Mostly Technical](https://mostlytechnical.com/episodes/72-the-big-tweet), Ian and I talked about managing my time. It's kind of difficult to figure out where I spend my time day to day because I could produce assets that we sell, I could market assets we already have, or I could explore new areas that could be potentially lucrative in the future.
Some of the exploration makes good content. It may not make money, but it makes good content and it keeps me at the top of people's minds. That in a way is marketing as well. So I'm trying to figure out the best way to manage my schedule without losing the creative spark.
If you have any ideas on that, I would love to hear them!

Both Laravel and Laracasts are looking for video animators and editors right now. This is obviously interesting to me because Steve and I have invested a lot into video and it's nice to see that it seems like the trend is continuing, that video is becoming even more valuable.
I do think we're going to see this become more of a thing for businesses as they're looking to differentiate themselves from piles and piles of AI generated content. They will be looking to forge genuine connections human to human and video is a great way to do that.

I’ve followed Corey Haines for a long time and really like his work—he’s a great marketer, especially when it comes to SaaS. I haven’t bought his book yet, but I will. What’s more interesting to me is that it seems to be doing very well. This is kind of exactly counter to the previous tweet about videos that maybe written content can still work.
I do think what makes this work is that Corey has a reputation for producing high quality content and people already know him. The value is not necessarily in producing the artifact, it's in the entire reputation of the person producing the artifact. I think we saw the same thing with Pieter Level's flying game. It's not really a great game, but he just has a reputation for making stuff quickly, and he's got broad distribution, and so he can launch almost anything and find an audience for it.

This delighted me to no end when I saw it. The picture on the left looks super legit, like he's actually sitting in front of a window and then you realize it's just a TV. I love little tricks like this.

This tweet is from a friend of mine who runs a SaaS tool for generating coloring pages for kids using AI. I’m a happy subscriber—my kids love it.
The thing that really stood out to me here is that this guy runs a successful business and still gets hit with missing database indexes. In our database education, I've always focused on super in depth material for people who are trying to level up their game. But this makes me wonder if I need to be focused more on crash course material for busy people who are doing it all.

### This week at Try Hard Studios
🎥 **Screencasting**
Steve and I have been deep in the trenches, gearing up for the [Screencasting.com](http://Screencasting.com) re-launch. I’m re-recording the core course videos to make them even better, while Steve is diving deep into editor-specific courses, showing you how to master your editing tools and create top-notch screencasts.
**🎙️ Podcast Appearances**
I had a great time chatting with Wes Bos and Scott Tolinski on the SyntaxFM podcast about my new library, Fusion. We covered how it works, why I built it, and my vision for where it’s headed—[give it a listen](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqMEhP-EHC4)!
I also had a blast joining Michael and Alex on DejaVue for a deeper dive into Fusion, especially from the Vue perspective (fitting, given the name!). [Check it out here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KeOQ0EvdjuU)
